Access

Access to the cave is granted subject to a set of Access Rules which are necessary to

  • Protect the cave in accordance with its status as a National Nature Reserve and the Management Plan

  • Maintain the enjoyment and safety of the public visiting the National Showcaves Centre

  • Ensure that parties are aware of risks that they may encounter in Dan yr Ogof.

Particular attention is drawn to the requirement that all members of the party must have BCA Public Liability Insurance.

No check or responsibility will be taken by the showcave staff or the management or the cave advisory committee for the safety arrangements of individual parties. That is the duty of the party.

While the showcave is open, the warden for the party must present their "wardens permit" and the completed pre-access declaration to the showcave staff who will allow access unless there is a sound reason to deny it. Such reasons might include high water or there already being three parties in the cave.

Parties who may still be in the cave when the showcave closes in the evening are strongly advised to obtain a key so that they can exit via the cavers' entrance in the front door.

While the showcave is closed, a key will be made available on request to a key holder.

The party must have first made arrangements for emergency rescue call out. All are advised to use the destination board at SWCC' s headquarters at Penwyllt as has been practiced for many years.
